Welcome to Prep School

The Prep School spans Years 3 to 6, and things start to look and feel a little different to the pupils in terms of structure and expectations. Greater emphasis is placed on independent learning, using engaging projects to capture their imaginations and interest. From Year 3 pupils enjoy lessons with subject specialist teachers and learn to move around the school for different lessons.

The education given throughout the Prep prepares pupils for their 11+, as well as building an excellent foundation for working towards GCSEs. As ever at Birchfield, our emphasis is firmly on a holistic approach, ensuring that our pupils are happy, confident and fulfilled. Our pupils have ample opportunity to enjoy the arts, music, theatre, sport and of course, the great outdoors. We know that happy and well-rounded children will consistently perform better academically, and hold this at the heart of all that we do.

By the end of Year 6, our pupils are more than ready for the next step in their educational journey, whether this be moving to another school, or choosing to remain at Birchfield School for our newly developed Senior School. Whatever the right next step for your child and your family, we will support you during the transition.
