HOW TO APPLY FOR A PLACE AT BIRCHFIELD
Birchfield School’s Admissions department would be delighted to hear from you and to guide you through the process of applying for a place with us.
Whether you wish to apply for a place in Reception, or any year from Year 1 to Year 8, the admissions process is the same.
Step 1 – Visit in person
To gain a real feel for our School, there is no substitute for a personal visit. We would be delighted to show you around our beautiful grounds and learning environment on an Open Day or on any working day during term time. You will have the chance to meet pupils, teachers and the Headmistress during your visit and discuss your children and your aspirations for their education, with no obligation.
To arrange a visit, please call the School Office 01902 372534 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Step 2 – Fill in Registration Form (available from the School Office)
Once you have visited and you are happy that Birchfield is the right ‘fit’ for your child, we ask you to apply officially by filling in a Registration Form. This gives us relevant details and the year group and date that your child will be joining us. A commitment fee is also payable at this stage. More details can be found on the Applying for Reception or Joining Birchfield pages.
In some circumstances there may be a waiting list for a particular year group and we will not be able to confirm your child’s place immediately. In this instance we will keep you regularly informed.
Step 3 – Purchase uniform
Once your child’s place has been confirmed, it’s all systems go! We will provide you with a full uniform list which also can be found on the Uniform page on this website. Our uniform suppliers School Shop Direct are based in Shrewsbury and they are happy to serve you with a dedicated appointment in the shop, or to come to Birchfield to meet you and your child to get them fully kitted out. Now you’re all ready to take your first steps on the Birchfield journey!
There is no substitute for a visit in person to Birchfield School. It is hard to convey in words the beauty of our location, the passion of our teachers or the exemplary manners and confidence of our pupils. We are proud of our subject specialist teaching and welcome you warmly to observe lessons and for your children to take part, so that you may make decisions with a real experience to draw on.
Applying for Prepcare
Prepcare is delighted to hear from parents and prospective parents wishing to explore opportunities for their babies and toddlers to join. Staff are happy to conduct tours and host visits from interested parents. A waiting list is in operation during times of exceptional demand and staff will be delighted to accept confirmations of places or additions to the waiting list after a site visit.
Applying for Pre-Prep

Birchfield accepts advance registrations for places throughout the School. It is usual to visit the School initially to chat to teachers and pupils to ensure you are happy with your choice and feel committed to joining. We always welcome visitors and would be glad to show you round. Should the class for your chosen Year group be full, we will add you to our waiting list and keep you regularly informed.
Scholarships & Bursaries
Birchfield welcomes applications for Scholarships for Year 6 in the areas of Academic, Arts and Sports. Each child and their situation is judged on merit and potential and any subsequent offers made are entirely at the discretion of Birchfield School. Scholarships are available for children joining us in Years 4,5 or 6 and are based on a commitment to stay until the end of Year 8 for 13+ examinations.
RAF Cosford / Armed Forces
Birchfield School is proud of its relationship with RAF Cosford. As we are almost neighbours (the base is only a few minutes away from Birchfield) our links have gone from strength to strength in recent years. Having had many service children through the doors over the years we are used to dealing with the unique family life which a career in the services can sometimes present.
