GO DEEP ENOUGH INTO ANYTHING AND YOU WILL FIND MATHEMATICS

Dean Schlicter

At Birchfield, we aim to create memorable moments for the pupils from which to hang their experiences. We strive to create a natural curiosity in Maths, through equipping pupils with the tools of logical reasoning, problem solving, abstract thought and number computation skills which are important in our daily lives. The strands of study are Number, Measurement, Geometry and Statistics, incorporating Algebra and Ratio and Proportion in Year 6. Building the foundations of an excellent understanding of mathematics, supports our pupils throughout their GCSE work and exams.
We endeavour to apply an investigative approach to learning. This develops pupils’ self-confidence and ability to creatively problem solve, both independently and collaboratively, and both inside and outside the classroom, whilst applying their logic and numerical skills to real life situations.
Pupils work hard for and relish the opportunity to enter our annual House Times Tables competition which helps to focus the mind and consolidate learning of this critically important facet of their mathematical journey.
