A 3 Year Comprehensive GSCE programme

A Broad and Balanced Curriculum with State of the Art Facilities

We are delighted to be announcing a brand new senior school for pupils aged 13 to 16, which will open its doors in September 2021 to our very first Year 9 cohort. Work is already underway on our site to begin transforming the main school house, Beamish House, in to a dedicated building for our senior pupils. Beamish House will  incorporate a separate entrance, state of the art classrooms and a modern learning environment with breakout rooms and study centres to maximise learning opportunities for all pupils.

Senior school pupils will undertake a three year comprehensive programme of study leading to GCSE examinations in Year 11. Our intention is to operate a broad and balanced GCSE programme which provides for a wide choice of subjects in the sixth form and beyond. Pupils will benefit from small class sizes to ensure that quality learning takes place and from the first class all-round educational experience that Birchfield is known for, from sport to performing arts to music.

The already impressive facilities at Birchfield are being upgraded as part of this development with significant investments in our Sport and Science facilities – more news to follow.

This page will be regularly updated with information on the progress and plans for Birchfield senior school.
