We are proud of our Science teaching at Birchfield, which prepares our pupils effectively for senior school entrance. The pupils are actively involved in their own learning in the well-equipped Science Laboratory, where they undertake a journey of discovery of the world around them through practical experiments and participation in demonstrations.
In Year 6 our pupils start to study the discrete sciences – Biology, Physics and Chemistry and they continue to do this extensively in Years 7 and 8, often up to GCSE standard. Our pupils leave Birchfield with scientific learning and understanding above the required level for their next school.
The wonderful setting of Birchfield School, with its extensive grounds lends itself beautifully to studying many aspects of Biology such as variation, classification, ecology, the environment and plant and animal biology. Our department has fostered excellent and productive relationships with prestigious senior schools in the area where scientists from Birchfield are regularly invited to visit as part of their scientific journey of discovery.
