William Shakespeare

From their earliest years in Prep School, Birchfield pupils are given many opportunities to perform in front of other pupils, parents and friends. We believe this early, yet age-appropriate introduction within a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, helps to build confidence and self-esteem from a young age.
We aim to develop every child’s imagination and their ability to express ideas and communicate in creative ways.  In the Pre-Prep department, teachers integrate drama improvisation and role-play into the learning process from the earliest days.   In class presentations, assemblies and the annual Nativity Play offer pupils a chance to perform and experience that buzz of excitement and sense of achievement from working together.
Drama is taught to pupils as part of the curriculum in Years 3 to 6, with annual plays for Years 3 and 4 in the Summer Term and Years 5 and 6 in the Spring Term. Our aim is that all our pupils have regular opportunities to take part in rewarding and challenging productions, whilst developing their public speaking and presentation skills.
There are many further opportunities for Drama within the curriculum including visiting artists, form assemblies and productions and LAMDA is offered as a club from Years 2 to 8 with the full range of examinations available.
