Reception Visit to Severn Valley Railway
Last week Reception pupils were able to link their topics of transport and fairy tales in a most enjoyable school visit. They boarded the steam train at Bridgnorth , disembarked at Arley Station and, then walked to Arley Arboretum. In spite of the wet weather the pupils were still able to enter the world of fairies and folklore; they discovered lots of tell-tale signs including magical doors within trees! Wednesday, 15 May.
We are delighted to announce some wonderful results in the recent LAMDA Examinations with 65% of our pupils achieving the highest accolade of a distinction and the remainder with merits. We are hugely proud of our young dramatists at Birchfield and would like to say a big well done to our pupils. Friday, 3 May.

There was much anticipation and excitement among our pupils as they headed off to the Austrian Alps during their Easter holidays. We were lucky enough to experience snow on four of the six days and all our skiers showed resilience and determination, improving their skiing enormously. Great fun was had off the slopes undertaking snowball fights, sledding and llama trekking! Friday, 3 May.
Runners-up at ISA Stafford Rugby Festival
Many congratulations to our super U9 rugby squad who did themselves and Birchfield proud to win runners-up medals in a fiercely-contested competition involving thirteen schools. Playing eight challenging matches, the team were unbeaten all day, succumbing only in their last match and narrowly missing out on the title. They played with skill, heart and pride against squads from much larger schools, securing many impressive victories and laying the foundation for further success in the future. Well done boys! 22 March 2019

Staff and pupils were delighted to welcome author Nick Arnold, author of the well-known Horrible Science books to Birchfield this week. Nick not only spoke to our pupils but engaged them in a series of fun and interactive experiments to demonstrate such laws as centrifugal force, air pressure and the principles of flight.
Pupils were fascinated as volunteers, including staff, were drafted in to live experiments with incredible results. Science continues to thrive at Birchfield and provides answers to some of the great mysteries of life that are in the minds of our young learners. 22 March 2019

Rachael Heyhoe Flint Cricket Award
Many congratulations to Grace, from all of us at Birchfield, as the inaugural recipient of the prestigious Rachael Heyhoe Flint Cricket Award, set up in memory of the pioneering cricket star, who died in January last year. Grace was selected from dozens of talented young cricketers who attended highly competitive trials at Malvern College. This is the first dedicated girls’ cricket scholarship offered by any school and will be made annually.
According to one of the selectors, ‘Grace really stood out . . . She has beautiful timing and is calm under pressure. She has a fierce desire to learn and improve, which often makes the difference between a good player and a great one.’ Grace currently plays cricket at Worfield Cricket Club and plays alongside the boys in Birchfield’s 1stXI.
Lady Heyhoe Flint captained the successful England women’s side from 1966 to 1978 and was the first female cricketer to hit a six in a Test match. Grace hopes that “it will give me the chance to try to fulfil my dream of playing cricket for England.”
“We are immensely proud of Grace and her outstanding achievements and congratulate her on being the first ever recipient of this new award”, said Mrs Sarah Morris, Headmistress on receiving the wonderful news. 6 December 2018

Head Girl, Esther, plays cricket for two local clubs and also for the U13s Shropshire County Cricket team. Prefect, Grace, also plays cricket locally and for the U13s Shropshire County. This is a magnificent achievement for both girls, who play for our 1st XI cricket team, and it demonstrates the high level of sport that our girls play at Birchfield. 28 October 2019
